Norway plans world’s first underwater floating tunnel

Necessity is the mother of invention. One such pressing need is leading Norway to build an engineering marvel: the world’s first underwater floating tunnel.

According to reports, western Norway comprises almost 1,200 fjords, which are long, narrow, deep inlets of the sea between high cliffs formed by submergence of a glaciated valley. Because of such geography, which is stunning to see, travelling across the nation’s coastline is a nightmare.

Business Insider recently reported that the drive from Kristiansand to Trondheim in Norway takes about 21 hours and one has to take as many as seven ferry crossings to continue on the journey.

It is this need that has seen the Norwegian Public Roads Administration proposing the world’s first underwater floating tunnel through the Norwegian Sea.

Such a tunnel will make travelling easier and will cut down travel time by at least half. The cost of the proposed tunnel, if completed in time, has been estimated at $25 billion, according to Wired magazine.

So what will the Norwegian underwater floating tunnel look like? Let’s take a look:

Satisfied Employee!!!!

Today I went through this quote:
"Employees who believe that management is concerned about them as a whole person - not just an employee - are more productive, more satisfied, more fulfilled. Satisfied employees mean satisfied customers, which leads to profitability."

For a while I thought how rubbish this is. But I gave a second thought. I realized actually this is true. If we being a employee just feel that we are satisfied with management, we can work more comfortably with fruitful results. Lets take it to the organization level. Leave the customers, just think about the management. The satisfaction level of management is directly proportional to the efforts we deploy. The more fruitful our efforts are, the more satisfied our management is. But we, the employees, need to be the drivers. It's not always about how much we get paid for the work. But it's about how much we enjoy our work. If we start enjoying our work, we start giving more efforts to it. We are somehow linked with it.

I know this post may be bit confusing about what actually I want to convey, but this is what came to my mind after reading the above quote. Give it a thought, start enjoying work, start respecting management. Whatever we have from management, this is not it, we can expect more from them with our great efforts. But the efforts are must. This will make us a complete SATISFIED EMPLOYEE..!!!

Your Office's Fluorescent Lights Really Are Draining Your Will To Work

I met my eye specialist this weekend due to constant redness in my eyes and sudden sensitivity towards any bright lights. Since I already wear prescribed glasses with anti glare coating and maintain a good distance from the desktop monitor, it was least likely due to continuous contact with screen at office or home.
My Doctor revealed that it's due to lack of natural lighting in my office environment also, excessive use of artificial lighting with barely a few feet of distance. (I stand at 6 feet and I can literally touch the ceiling by extending hands)
Later, I read a few articles stating the same. Now, I am wondering if we, as an organization consider these aspects while renting out any office space.
I am stating 'renting' because in my previous office which was owned by TCS, had large glass windows, sufficient distance of lights, and pleasant ambiance.
Below is an article stating the same: Article Link
Excerpts:

There are a number of negative health effects that have been linked to working under fluorescent lights that are theorized to be caused by this body chemistry mechanism such as:
  • Migraines
  • Eye strain
  • Problems sleeping, due to melatonin suppression
  • Symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder or depression
  • Endocrine disruption and poor immune systems
  • Female hormonal/menstrual cycle disruption
  • Increases in breast cancer rates and tumor formation
  • Stress/Anxiety, due to cortisol suppression
  • Sexual development/maturation disruption
  • Obesity
  • Agoraphobia (anxiety disorder)
  • The other main cause of problems with fluorescent lights is that they flicker. Fluorescent light bulbs contain a gas that gets excited and glows when electricity is passed through this. The electricity is not constant. It is controlled by an electric ballast that pulses on and off really fast. To most people it is so fast that it looks like it is on constantly. However, some people can perceive the flicker even if they can't consciously see it. This can cause:
  • Migraines
  • Headaches
  • Eye strain
  • Stress/Anxiety
Additionally fluorescent bulbs, especially cheaper bulbs, may have a green cast to them making all the colors in your environment drabber and sickly looking.
